Light that sells the merchandise.
In retail, light is a sales tool. The right accent makes a product worth picking up, the right color rendering makes it worth buying. We standardize that effect across every store so your brand looks the same in every market.
The goal
Make the product the hero, in every location.
Lighting is a critical factor in shaping a compelling retail environment, one that attracts customers, reinforces brand identity, and changes how merchandise is experienced. Success comes from a carefully layered balance of visual comfort, precision optics, contrast, and flexibility, where reliable, repeatable accent lighting keeps merchandise clear and the brand consistent as displays evolve.
Elite's architectural downlights, adjustable luminaires, linear systems, wall wash optics, and LED track lighting are engineered for refined illumination with superior visual comfort. Deep-regressed optics, controlled beam distributions, and high-angle glare control put attention exactly where you intend it, while high-CRI light renders the true color, texture, and materiality of what you sell across every display and every location.
The approach
Contrast is what sells.
We build retail with four layers, with accent doing the heavy lifting at a 5:1 ratio to ambient.
General · 30–50 footcandles
A clean, even base that lets customers shop comfortably and orient themselves.
Task · 50–200 footcandles
Focused light at the point of sale and service counters for accuracy and speed.
Accent · 150–500 footcandles
The sales layer. Precise, aimable light on displays at a 5:1 ratio to make product pop.
Perimeter
Vertical wall wash that defines the space and makes the store feel larger.
Application solutions
Zone by zone, from the window to the wrap desk.
Every part of the store does a different job. Here is how we light each one and the Elite fixtures we standardize for it.
Window Displays
Your most valuable advertising. Intense, high-CRI accent and stopping power that pull passersby in off the street.
Entrance & Transition
A bright, welcoming threshold that competes with daylight and sets the tone for the brand inside.
General Sales Floor
An even canvas of ambient light, layered with accent so the floor never feels flat or warehouse-like.
Feature & Focal Displays
Where margin lives. Precise, aimable accent at high CRI brings out shape, texture, and color on hero product.
Fitting Rooms
The most important mirror in the store. Flattering, high-CRI light that helps customers say yes.
Checkout & POS
Task light that speeds transactions and a decorative moment that closes the experience on a high note.
Color quality in retail
Why CRI and R9 sell the merchandise.
In retail, color rendering is conversion. R9, the deep-red score, is what makes apparel, cosmetics, leather, and wood look saturated and true, so the product on the shelf matches the product in the campaign and the one the customer pictured. Render red poorly and a lipstick or a red dress looks off even at CRI 90, which quietly erodes trust and drives returns.
- True merchandise color: what sells online matches what sells in store.
- Reds and warm tones: high R9 keeps cosmetics, denim, and leather honest.
- Fewer returns: color shoppers trust at the rack is color they keep at home.
